Global Yodel wants to hear about places of the world from experts, from locals, from you. Tell us about where you live. You are an expert. You live and breathe in your city every day. You know your community more authentically than any outside travel writer/photographer. The place you live is a foreign destination to most of the world, so what may seem like the routine sights and sounds of life is likely fresh to the rest of us.

I was part of a travel photography workshop in Corte Madera, California. Most of the group was local, but one woman came from rural Oklahoma. Each person shared photos. Ms Oklahoma showed pictures she had taken in San Francisco that day, mostly of seagulls on the wharf. To her, the gulls were fresh, but not to the locals. Reluctantly, she later shared images of her hometown. We were blown away by the shots of farmland and the great skies of Oklahoma.

Your hometown – where you spend your time – is what we want to see. Share your place and the culture there. Be it beautiful, ugly, happy, sad, tasty, thirst-quenching, funny, inspirational, traditional, innovative, cutting edge or informational. Let us know what you love, hate, thrive on, take pride in, or do for fun in your city. Avoid submitting a photo that could have been taken anywhere. Just make sure it has at least a little trademark of your spot.

Share where you live, and your place in it, through your lens.

Design the front of a 5×7 postcard for the city or place you live.  The design can be of anything, just make sure it has some trademark of your city.  It can be a doodle or sketch that takes you five minutes; it can be a well crafted, thought-out piece done with software that takes hours; or anything in between.  You can email submissions sized to 5×7 inches, or email me to request some blank Global Yodel post cards.  I will snail mail you some with self addressed stamped envelopes.

Interview questions for design submissions. Please include in submission email.
