Can you sum up Portsmouth? A very creative and proactive city that has a very strong naval history. A varied cultural and young population fuelled by Portsmouth University and it’s close location to London and Brighton. Lots of inspirational people getting on and doing things.

Occupation: Lecturer at Portsmouth University

Preoccupation: Photographer

A perfect day in Portsmouth? I lost my wonderful dog Twm a few months ago and the perfect day used to be hanging out with him on the beaches in Portsmouth. Now my perfect day is spent with good friends doing creative projects that support the city on an international level.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Go to the beach, visit the Street Art spots around the city, check out the legendary Southsea Skatepark, hit the quirky shops on Albert Road filled with vintage and unusual offerings. Have a pint or two at pubs like The Belle Isle and The Phoenix, a cake and tea at The Garage Lounge on Albert Road.

A perfect meal? Chili at my pad served with coriander and mint bread.

What is the best thing about your spot? It’s peaceful and right next to the sea.

What is the worst? The cold wet weather, although Portsmouth does have a great deal of sunshine – more than average.

A little known fact about where you live? It is the UK’s only island city.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Tough call – India, Bermuda… Hands down winner is The Gower Coast in Wales (my place of birth).

Who are your three favorite photographers? Lee FriedlanderDiane Arbus and Walker Evans.
