Currumbin Rock Pools by Sarah Lee in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

  • Sarah Lee for GY!

The rock pools in Currumbin are the perfect way to chill off during a stifling summer season in the Gold Coast.  Natural rock slides, a rope swing, and no park rangers nagging at you for doing something a little dangerous.  It’s a magical place to kick back with friends, reconnect with nature, and escape from the fabricated ‘Surfers Paradise.’

Name: Sarah Lee

Place you live: Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

Place your photo was taken: Currumbin Rock Pools

Occupation:  film/ad student

Preoccupation: portrait, wedding & surf photography

A perfect day in Gold Coast? An early morning surf in light offshore winds, dollar coffee at 7-Eleven, sun baking on the beach, and a night out in Broadbeach.

For the visitor: Watch the sunrise, check out the rock pools, go for a hike in Burleigh Heads.

A perfect meal?  Eating out is too expensive, unless it’s at Raw Energy in Coolangatta.  The perfect home meal is avocado toast:  Reed avocados, burgen bread, fresh lime, sea salt, & chili flakes.

A little known fact about where you live? Surfers Paradise is not the place to surf.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Noosa,Queensland, Australia
