Happy Inside – a new photo book from Amy Lombard.

Global Yodel contributor Amy Lombard sent in a copy of her brand new photo book for us to giveaway! Happy inside is a collection of “domestic” photos that Amy has captured inside Ikea. Its a really fun concept as they seem to be images captured in homes across the world.

“The photographs have a way of coercing the viewer into believing they are an accurate portrayal of domesticity. There is a certain degree of empathy involved, nostalgia even. It’s as if you have have seen these photographs before, or perhaps been the person in the photograph. Yet despite this familiarity, the subject is unaware. These situations are not set up, planned, or preconceived. They are illusions of reality captured through the showroom of IKEA.” – Amy Lombard

Alright who wants it? To win a copy of this book all you have to do is leave a comment below for Amy. Tell her what you think of her series. If you post this giveaway on Facebook or tweet about it I will count those as additional entries. Just be sure to tag us in your post and tweet so I know. I will choose a winner on Monday August 27th.

Great series. One question; How did you ever get out of there?

  1. Haha Aaron – it really is hard to get out of that maze!

  2. Thank you, Amy, for the fact that you stole my idea. If it did not work so well, I would have applied to you in court.

Wow, I love the concept! Ikea has so many contrived home-like settings it’s hard to distinguish fake from real through the view of a single lens. I haven’t seen anything like this before.

    Great work, Amy… so universal.

Brilliant series! What I find compelling is the universality of IKEA as a place people both love and loathe. We look to IKEA as a source for affordable and modern wares to create our homes, but what we want is the memories of the people in our shared spaces. The narrative of your photos shows us that the quality and warmth of a home is in the people who occupy it. IKEA is the familiar, a perfect set.
