Reflections on water.
Saint Paul is a beautiful urban area tucked inside of an even more beautiful area of nature. There are many things that people might claim define the area, and I’m not going to try and claim this is the most important one, but it’s one of the most defining aspects for sure: water. We have the Mississippi River, which starts here in Minnesota, flows south, cutting through both Saint Paul & Minneapolis (and in the Twin Cities sports amazing trails along both the east & west banks). Then of course there are our 10,000 lakes.

What is a perfect day in your city, town, or village? It’s all depending on my mood. A day when I want to cycle in perfect weather – Sunny, calm wind, high temperature around 70°F, low around 50°F. A day when I don’t want to leave the house – grey, rainy, high temperature around 50°F, low around 40°F
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Ride the trail system through Saint Paul & Minneapolis, then onto a place like the Blue Door Pub for one of the best burgers in the Twin Cities and a pint.
A perfect meal? Home, grilled lamb chops with grilled vegetables from my wife’s garden.
What is the best thing about the place you live? Despite being in an urban setting, you’re never more than a couple miles from nature. Yes, it’s still the city, but it feels like some place different.
And the worst? February. I love Minnesota, but by the time winter hits February, I’m done with winter.
A little known fact about where you live? I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but in 2008 the state of Minnesota voted on and approved the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, which basically was an additional sales tax that the citizens of Minnesota gave to themselves that now sets aside money for natural resource and cultural heritage purposes, something I think is wonderful.
