This is my friend Alden Peters. We were in one of the NYU buildings, which as you can see has a beautiful view above Washington Square Park and 5th Avenue. He’s working on a fantastic documentary about coming out and I was profiling him for one of my projects, Strong.
Name: Jesse Jacobs
Place you live: New York, NY / Sicklerville, NJ
Place your photo/video was taken: New York, New York
Can you sum up NYC? As the saying goes: “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere”, I think that line really says it all! New York is electric, there’s such a great energy here that I believe can only be found here. If you’re a creative of any type this is definitely a great place to be.
Occupation: Photographer
Preoccupation: music, dance, and photography!
What is a perfect day in NYC? Whenever the sun is out, it’s always a good day in the city! The light hits the streets in the most interesting and beautiful ways. And it tends to highlight a cool community of street artists out there, from the people who make the beautiful artwork on Union Square to the subway performers!
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Besides the typical tourists spots which you should always do if it’s your first time in the city, I’d say you have to experience the nightlife if you’re legally able too of course! I love the bars and clubs here, they’re always a good time!
A perfect meal in NYC? My absolute favorite place to eat in the city is Veselksa’s, their chocolate chip pancakes are THE. BEST. Another place I love is 2 Bros. It’s one of many dollar pizza places but it’s so good! I don’t think I would of survived my first year of school here without it!
What is the best thing about your spot? It’s New York! There’s so much opportunity here, there’s always a chance for you to grow, learn, and hopefully succeed.
What is the worst? Everything is damn expensive. Literally, most things here are crazy overpriced. Which unfortunately puts a damper on some people being able to come and experience the great things and opportunities that the city offers.
A little known fact about where you live? Hm, I don’t know if there any little known facts about New York left to tell, but one of my favorite known facts is that Madonna got her start her in the 80′s as did many other amazing artists. Specifically in the East Village!
Where is your favorite place in the world? You’re looking at it! New York!
Who are your three favorite photographers? In no specific order, I love Alasdair Mclellan, Geordie Wood, and William Eggleston.
