Weekend Tourist in Taipei, Taiwan
I first came here in 2009. Even in 3 years, a lot has changed and the area has become much more accommodating to the weekend tourist. I spotted these two boys standing near the doorway of some shop playing and just stood there like a creepy old dude observing and seeing what they would do.
Place you live: Taipei, Taiwan
Place your photo was taken: Tamsui (formerly Dansui), about 30 minutes northwest of Taipei.
Can you sum up Taipei? Comfortably modest – where I hang dry my laundry in my underwear on my balcony.
Occupation: Photographer
Preoccupation: Hustler
What is a perfect day in Taipei? If possible, getting out of the city by scooter or car stopping by roadside street vendors on the way back for snacks. Followed by dinner, drinks and a drunken bike ride home.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Come karaoke with me.
A perfect meal in Taipei? Pork Bun Belly and barley intestine soup at my favorite place in Gongguan near National Taiwan University.
What is the best thing about your spot? The street noise outside my window.
What is the worst? The street noise outside my window.
A little known fact about where you live? There was a dead roach on the staircase for about 6 months that no one bothered to clean. Today someone cleaned it and I actually kind of missed it.
Where is your favorite place in the world? Where my friends and family are. Which is to say, all over the place!
Who are your three favorite photographers? At the moment, Ricor, Lukasz Wierzbowski, and my friend Jill just introduced me to Cody Cobb.
