Impossibly Flat in Michigan, USA
This photo is from the countryside outside of the small town I grew up near. I was raised on a small farm along a river, and many of my friends growing up lived in similarly distant places. Not far at all by car, but islands unto themselves when you’re a kid. The countryside in southeastern Michigan is almost impossibly flat, and at night you could see the lights of your “neighbors” house from sometimes miles away.

A perfect day in Ann Arbor? A visit to the botanical garden with my daughter, some kickball, and drinks at the beer garden.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Take a tube down the river, see a game at the biggest football stadium in the country,
A perfect meal in Ann Arbor? Pickled tomatoes and crispy pork belly at Mani. Or a triple with bacon at Blimpy Burger.
What is the best thing about your spot? It’s chill, it’s affordable, it’s pleasant, it’s close to all the best lakes, Detroit’s just a minute away, and an international airport is even closer.
What is the worst? The topology. I’d kill for a mountain on the horizon.
