Home in Central California, USA
This video really captures the area where I live and grew up. I am constantly inspired by traveling other places, but nothing compares to being home and finding beauty and adventure in your own backyard. I tried to really give a depiction of what photography means to me while showcasing the natural landscapes around me.
Place you live: Arroyo Grande, CA
Place your video was Made: Central California… the video was taken from Pismo Beach to Big Sur.
Can you sum up Central California? Central California is unlike anywhere in the world. It is away from all the hustle and bustle of Southern California and the immediate access to nature is unlike anywhere else. There is a real sense of community and living in a smaller town allows people to really get to know each other. From week to week I can bike to the ocean, my favorite places to eat, and farmers markets. People enjoy being out in the community and there are always events happening throughout the town. Surfing in Central California is a lot different too. You can score perfect waves by yourself or with a few buddies on a regular basis.
Occupation: Photographer
Preoccupation: Dreaming to be a photographer
What is a perfect day in Arroyo Grande? My favorite time of year is fall, theres always good waves and good light to shoot in. I wake up to practice some morning yoga, eat breakfast with my wife and son and then try and bodysurf if I can, after that I get into the office to send out emails and work on images from any recent trips I have taken, jobs, ect. Around lunch time I hangout with my wife and son, and maybe grab a bite to eat with friends. Then its back to the office to take care of the rest of the days work. When evening time hits I either hangout with family or try and bodysurf if I didn’t in the morning, maybe go climbing also. If there is ever good light or swell in the water my favorite thing to do is go take pictures up north of where I live on the central coast after work. Durning the night time I relax at home with family and hangout with friends if there in town.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Drive up the coast to Big Sur
A perfect meal? Honeymoon Cafe, anything from here is good but in the mornings I would get a market veggie scramble.
What is the best thing about your spot? The natural beauty of the central coast
What is the worst? The wind here can get bad sometimes
A little known fact about where you live? The central coast area was originally inhabited by Chumash and other Native American people since at least 10,000 B.C.
Where is your favorite place in the world? Central California
Who are your three of your favorite photographers? Henri-Cartier Bresson, James Nauchtwey and Joe Curren to name a few.
