I was shooting an assignment, exteriors of buildings in this neighborhood. These guys swept by me, I saw them out of the corner of my eye. It’s just one of those wonderful Istanbul moments.

Name:Andres Gonzalez

Place you live: Istanbul, Turkey

Place your photo was taken: A neighborhood called Çukurcuma, in Istanbul.

Can you sum up the place you live in a short paragraph? Its an invigorating place to live, youthful and ancient at the same time, a living organism in every sense of the word. There are over 13 million people living here. It can get oppressive in the summer months, but luckily there are always the ferry boats to look for a breeze and some space to daydream.

Occupation: Photographer

Preoccupation: wandering

What is a perfect day in your city, town, or village? Any day in October.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Take a ferry across the Bosphorus.

A perfect meal in Istanbul? Lunch after hitting up the farmers market.

What is the best thing about your spot? I love all the stray dogs.

What is the worst? The stray cats.

A little known fact about where you live? I don’t know if this isn’t known, but it was quite a shock for me.. Turkish coffee is drunk with the grounds still brewing in it. The first time I had a Turkish coffee I drank / ate the grounds, which kinda blew my mind. You’re not supposed to do that.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Anywhere out in the world.
