Farming Community in Barrington, Rhode Island
Just outside of the capital of Providence, Rhode Island lies the suburb of Barrington, a town residing on the eastern side of Narragansett Bay. It is also here that a quiet farming community meets a quaint New England coastal town. The tourists come for the summer activities, but locals hang around due to its excellent school system and high quality of life in general. Jesse Burke further describes his love for his hometown through his photographs. Check out his beautiful pics and be sure to follow him on Instagram here: @jesse_burke

Place your Instagrams were taken? In and around Barrington, Rhode Island area
Can you sum up Barrington? Barrington is a classic New England beach town and we found a sweet spot of land across from the beach and occupied it with a variety of animals, mostly chickens, and my three daughters. 🙂
What is a perfect day in Barrington? Spending the day in the field out back with my crew watching birds and tending to the farm.
If Barrington was a person or character who would it be and why? Herman Melville, because he was a hearty New Englander obsessed with the woods and the sea.
How long have you been using Instagram? Since 2010.
Do you shoot with your phone or other cameras or both? Both. I use my Canon digital camera and my phone for all my artwork, and sometimes even my commercial work.
What is your editing process? For Instagram- Shoot in camera, Snapseed, VSCO, post to Insta. For Digital- Shoot with Canon, Lightroom, Photoshop, output.
Has Instagram/phoneography affected how you shoot? Instagram has really encouraged me to shoot with my phone quite a bit. Once I started to really trust the files I was getting I started to include my phone pics as a valid and important part of my artwork process. I now exhibit images from my phone in my Wild & Precious photographic installations in museums and galleries and they were published in the book. It’s a really important part of my life and work!
Can you give a couple tips to aspiring Instagram photographers? I always recommend that my photography students look at their own personal life for a rich subject matter. What matters to you? That’s what you should focus on. If it’s important to you then it’s important to me. I will look at it and spend time on it if I know you care. Also, don’t try to be trendy or emulate what you see as the “cool” thing. This is a huge problem on Instagram and with social media in general. I have had success in my career and particularly on Instagram for my unique individual vision of the world and my family. For just being me, and honestly, that is the most rewarding part!
Who are your three favorite Instagrammers? @childhoodunplugged, @nilsericson, and @joelsartore
