Green, Wet, and Beautiful in Mt. Vernon, Washington, USA
All images are taken with my iPhone, which I use to document the people and spaces I encounter everyday.
Place you live: Mt. Vernon, Washington, USA
Place your photos were taken: In or near areas surrounding Skagit Valley, Washington.
Can you sum up the Skagit Valley? I just recently moved from the Midwest of the U.S to the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Nebraska and went to college in Missouri. Washington State, more specifically my new home in Skagit Valley, is much different than the Midwest. Its green, wet, and beautiful.
Occupation: High School Tutor
Preoccupation: Photography. More recently, iPhoneography
A perfect day in Mt. Vernon? When the skies clear and you have a clear view of Mt. Rainer and Mt. Baker.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? I’m fairly new to the area, so I’m still discovering and learning about the area myself. I would suggest driving up the Chuckanut, driving through the farm lands in Skagit Valley, going over Deception Pass, and taking a ferry or two between some of the islands.
A perfect meal? I like to cook/make my own food at home. Here are my current favorites.
Breakfast: Pancakes.
Lunch: Raw kale and red pepper sandwhich.
Dinner: Tacos – refried beans, onions, red and green peppers, jalepenos, avacado, corn tortillas.
What is the best thing about your spot? Ocean, mountains, lakes, rivers, trees, trees, and trees.
What is the worst? Rain. Not the fun down-pouring rain that brings thunderstorms; but cold, drizzly, boring rain.
A little known fact about where you live? It’s okay to wear Birkenstocks and socks here.
Where is your favorite place in the world? My grandparents’ farm in Herman, Nebraska.
Who are your three favorite photographers? Bill Owens. Harry Callahan. Andreas Gursky.
