Place your Instagrams were taken? Blue Ridge Mountains and Lynchburg, Virginia
Can you sum up Lynchburg? Free, adventurous, and inspiring. Lynchburg is the home to a really close creative community that thrives in working together. For a lot of us, the mountains and landscapes are a huge inspiration that keep our work going strong.
What is a perfect day in Lynchburg? Wake up early for sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway, get breakfast at a local diner on the way back into town, go to work to edit photos, head out to connect with friends after work over pizza and a beer at Rivermont Pizza, then get to bed really early.
How long have you been using Instagram? About three years.
Do you shoot with your phone or other cameras or both? I shoot 95% of my Instagram photos with my iPhone and the other 5% with my 5D Mark ii.
What is your editing process? For the images I put up on Instagram, I play around with different VSCOcam filters to see what works best, then export and refine in Snapseed.
Has Instagram/phoneography affected how you shoot? It makes me more conscious of everything in the frame since mostly everything is in focus with iPhone photos. Considering the background before the foreground has been something I’ve practiced since getting into iPhone photography and has carried over into the work I create with my DSLR for clients.
Can you give a couple tips to aspiring Instagram photographers? Everyone says this, but it’s true: “shoot every single day.”
Who are your three favorite Instagrammers? Michael O’Neal, Benjamin Heath, and Kevin Russ.
