Libraries of the World by Richard Silver in New York City, NY, USA

My first photo is of the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue in New York City. I was given permission to photograph the Main Reading Room before the library opened. It was such an honor to be given access to photograph this amazing room and be there all by myself. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity as the library does not allow this to occur anymore. The other 4 photographs are from Mexico City, Vienna, Rio de Janeiro and Budapest.

Name:Richard Silver
Occupation:

Photographer

Preoccupation:

Travel! I have a need to leave New York constantly to see the world before I run out of time (or money).

Tell us about the place you live:

Home base. Recently travel has become such a huge part of who I am that New York is a place for me to work with my photos from my travels, book future travel and catch up on some well needed rest.

A perfect day?

NY1 News, nice egg white omelette for breakfast, walking around and observing people, catching up with a friend, dinner and drinks with someone I haven’t seen in a while.

What is the best thing about your spot?

Location, Location, Location! I can get to anywhere I need to by subway or walking. Everything I need is within a few short blocks.

What is the worst?

My new neighbors to my hood. Beggars, homeless, drunks… they were never here before but now they are. It is by far the worst thing about my area.

What would be surprising about this place to an outsider?

How convenient living smack dab in the middle of the city is. No car needed….just comfortable shoes, a bike and a metro card.

Who are three of your favorite artists?

Olivo Barbieri, Cindy Sherman and Led Zeppelin.
