Little Place in Rhinebeck, New York, USA
I took this photo during the summer after I graduated from high school. It was shot in the backyard of a close friend of mine. I find the image of a fading impression to be tied up in leaving home for the first time and the transition from childhood to adulthood.

Can you sum up Rhinebeck? Rhinebeck is a small town about a hundred miles north of New York City. The economy is based primarily on tourism. Not surprisingly, tensions can run high between longtime residents and affluent weekenders and transplants. In high school, it was “boring” in that small town way. That said, Rhinebeck has been a great place to grow up. The proximity to New York is fantastic and the Hudson Valley is a really beautiful part of the world.

A perfect day in Rhinebeck? Spending time with friends, skateboarding, perhaps a trip to Burger Hill (the highest point in town) at sunset. For me, a perfect day in Rhinebeck would be more about the people I spend it with than what I do.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? See a movie at Upstate Films, an art-house movie theater where I’ve worked since I was 14, go to a WWI airshow at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome, visit A.L. Stickle, an old-fashioned “five-and-dime” store, and get a sandwich and an iced coffee at Rhinebeck Bagels.
What and where is a perfect meal in the place you call home? Anything my mom makes or a BLT with honey-mustard and onion from Rhinebeck Bagels.
What is the best thing about your spot? It’s “home.”
What is the worst? It can feel boring and limiting as a teenager.
A little known fact about where you live? Everything is little known, it’s a little place.
Where is your favorite place in the world? I can’t choose just one.
