Michael Giroux’ Local Guide to Seattle in Seattle
These photos capture Seattle’s many city scenes. I hope they make people want to visit this spectacular city.
Occupation: I am an engineer at Boeing and a freelance photographer.
Place you live: Seattle
How would you sum up Seattle? Seattle is an innovative tech city surrounded by beautiful nature. People don’t just live here to work, they also live here to play. Recreation and the outdoors set Seattle apart from any other city in the United States. Seattle is home to the largest ferry system in the country. Right outside of the city there are islands, deserts, rain forests and waterfalls. Save yourself the ticket to Iceland and come to Seattle!
Tell us a little about Seattle’s different neighborhoods: Seattle is a city made up of diverse neighborhoods. You can’t get the whole picture by spending all your time at the waterfront. Head into the parks and neighborhoods to really experience Seattle.
What was the experience like shooting for a campaign to promote Seattle to the world? It reminded me just how much I love this city. The scenery, the people, the food, the businesses and so much more make Seattle great.
A perfect day in Seattle? Coffee at Stumptown, shopping at Glasswing, buying a plant at The Palm Room, dinner with friends at Oddfellows and watching the sunset at Golden Gardens.
What do you love about Seattle? The summers and fall are my favorite. Waking up early on a foggy fall morning to head to the mountains makes you feel like a kid again.
What would be surprising about Seattle to an outsider? That Seattle is completely surrounded by views of mountains. To the north is Mt. Baker, to the east are the Cascade Mountains, to the south is Mt. Rainier and to the west are the Olympics.
If Seattle was a person or character who would it be? If Seattle were a person it would be Russell Wilson, the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Everybody likes Russell Wilson even if they don’t like the Seahawks.
