Secret Spot in Kona, Hawaii, USA
In a secret spot on the Kona Coast, pods of dolphins come to rest after their nightly hunts. I had the honour to join some locals of the spot (pictured), on their daily swim to see the sleepy dolphins.
Place you live: Kona, Hawaii
Place your photo was taken: South Kona
Can you sum up Kona? An idyllic slice of paradise on the biggest island in the Hawaiian chain. Beach life, warm weather, and ‘ono grinds’ (delicious food).
Occupation: student / underwater photographer
Preoccupation: Writing this yodel at 2 am in the morning while waiting to leave for the airport to start a new adventure back to Australia to do photography and video for http://www.alisonsadventures.com for the next few months.
A perfect day in Kona? Dawn patrol surf session, a bowl at Basik Acai in town, sun bake and nap on the beach with friends, maybe get some work done, grab an early dinner at Da Poke Shack which is consumed on the seawall that overlooks a local surf spot where little groms shred it up as the sun is setting.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Eat! Seriously. This is what me and my friend’s schedules revolve around. Some of my favourites are: Basik Acai, Hayashis, Kona Brewing Company, Da Poke Shack, Lemongrass Bistro, Ceviche Daves, and Kona De Pele.
A perfect meal Kona? Fresh-caught spicy ahi poke, seaweed salad, and brown rice.
What is the best thing about your spot? Some days there are hundreds of dolphins – so many you can barely swim around!
What is the worst? The vog. It’s like smog, but caused by the volcanic activity in the south.
A little known fact about where you live? If I told you what I was going to tell you, the locals would have my head taken off.
Where is your favorite place in the world? Right here, for now.
